The "MAGIC WORDS FOR DRUG-FREE KIDS" show is a presentation that tells children they have the right to Say No; that there are situations in which they should say No; and then explains exactly how to say No. The program also indicates how the children might feel in a Say No situation. Then the show illustrates by Magic, and in a Non-Threatening way, what might happen if they don't Say No.

Most of the material and terminology used in this program comes from programs supplied by Dr. Susan Smith, head of the Child Abuse Center at Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC. The Magic routines are filled with Comedy, Audience Participation, and important drug-free messages.
Not Just a Re-hash of the Same Old Statistics and Warnings
The show is built on the idea that children already know that they should "Just Say NO!"-they also have heard all the facts, statistics and consequences of drug use.
My "Magic Words for Drug-Free Kids" teaches them a PROCESS (an easily remembered set of 4 steps that make it easy to say NO and get out of uncomfortable situations.
The steps are "NO, GO, TELL, YELL" and throughout the show, we learn and repeat them. It's like "Stop, Drop and Roll" for fire safety. We develop a reflex response to uncomfortable situations.

Then anytime one of those children was in an awkward situation, felt uncomfortable and didn't know what to do, they could just say the Magic Word and everything would be OK! Sounds great, doesn't it? Well, in the show, the Magic Words are magically introduced, and the key themes developed. The Key Word, of course, is NO.
Mont Dutson provides a master of a "NO CARD" for each school to reprint and give to each child.
On each "NO CARD" there is a Magic Trick using the word NO as well as the four steps used in Saying No. Those four steps are explained in the show and repeated many times.
